Veterinary Medical Associations
O.V.M.A. – Ontario Veterinary Medical Association
The Ontario Veterinary Medical Association is the professional organization representing veterinarians across Ontario. OVMA is committed to advancing and promoting excellence in veterinary medicine, the betterment of animal health and contributing to the protection of human health. OVMA is the veterinary advocacy group for Ontario.
O.A.V.T. – Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians
Veterinary Technicians are specifically trained professionals who work as an integral part of the veterinary medical team, to provide humane quality animal health care. Their education provides them with the theory and practical skills essential to their career choice. The OAVT is an advocacy group for the Veterinary Technicians of Ontario.
C.V.O. – The College of Veterinarians of Ontario
The College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO) regulates the practice of veterinary medicine in Ontario to protect the public interest. While the CVO is not a school or university, the organization licenses veterinarians, inspects and accredits veterinary facilities and investigates complaints against veterinarians. It is the Veterinary regulatory and licensing board for Ontario.
Canadian Veterinary Medical Association
The official site of the Veterinary Profession in Canada. The CVMA website contains a lot of information on pet care and health with the added bonus of providing a quick and accurate search tool to help find the information you are looking for.
Pet Health and Welfare
A.S.P.C.A.
The American Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animals website contains information on shelters, rehabilitation and poison control amongst other topics. There is also a link to the very fun and educational children’s site packed with activities.
Ontario SPCA
The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has a very colourful site containing information on the Ontario SPCA Act, lists of shelters in the province, ways to help prevent cruelty and fun facts for the kids.
Guelph Humane Society
This is an OSPCA affiliated site but with more of a local flare. The website contains information on adoptable pets and community activities.
Pet Health Information
Veterinary Partner
A well-organized website containing a bounty of information on behavioural and medical problems that are commonly experienced with your pets. It is not recommended as a replacement for veterinary advice specific to your individual pet; however it is a reliable and well documented site for supplemental information.
Animal Poison Control Centre
The Animal Poison Control Centre’s quick reference list of common plants that are known to be poisonous to pets. Further information contains symptoms and the degree of toxicity.

The Ontario Veterinary College offers a pet loss support hotline that can be reached at (519) 824-4120 ext. 53694.
